It is always such fortune that you have the chance, the opportunity to meet and become close to people who will instill that desire to grow, to learn and to take chances to expand your horizons in a depth that is sometimes unimaginable. Those people are called mentors, and they are a wondrous breed of human beings.
I have had such people come into my life, people who instilled a burning desire to excel and move forward, try and work so extremely hard that you are amazed when the goal is achieved. And all at the same time you don’t feel like you are working that hard, that the goal becomes such a passion that it becomes not work but actually fun, and enjoyable experience, that is what a mentor can do.
I have talked in previous blogs about goals and going back to college at 40 years old and finishing nine years later at 49 with a Masters degree, frankly an unimaginable goal and journey, however I never mentioned my primary mentor during that time, Professor Thomas A. Muth. A great man and an even greater educator, he is my man.
Professor Muth passed away this past week at the age of 73, and it is with a heavy heart that I write today.
My heart is heavy, yes, and sad, of course, however I will always remember and carry on the passion that this great man instilled in me, instilled in hundreds of other students he taught at Michigan State University.
It is truly because of him that I am in the position I am in, having the confidence and knowledge to write and express my deep feelings in the beliefs that I now carry.
Education, fitness, honor and accountability to name a few.
Writing and sharing stories of accomplishment, goals and achievements. That life is a journey that is to be embraced and taken to its full potential, that looking at any goal as a mountain is the wrong approach, it is the journey up the mountain for which every person should embrace.
Small steps lead to change which lead to accomplishments.
It is now my turn to help and bring to others the passion for achievement that my friend and mentor Tom Muth gave to me.
The founding and building of GRT Fitness and Wellness would never had occurred had it not been for the confidence instilled by Professor Muth in me, and I will always give my mentor Professor Muth the credit for helping see that life is about helping others, building ones confidence and that dreams can come true.
That is our teams goal, our mission and our passion.
Please remember this as you seek to change and improve your life.
Thanks for reading,
And many thanks to Professor Thomas A. Muth JD, Phd 1937-2010
