As I began thinking about this piece I realized as with almost all topics 3-400 words just won’t do a topic justice. That many of our issues in the fitness world, health care, wellness are extremely deep and opinions are as plentiful as autos. So let me preface these pieces by saying that the topic of the fountain of youth will be revisited so allow me to call this chapter one.
I truly believe in my heart that youth can be maintained, that through healthy living habits a person can have any quality of life that they desire, IF several pieces to your lifestyle fall into place. Now people will say where do I draw my opinion from, what qualifies this guy to make this claim etc. etc. To answer that question I would say read my bio on our website, read some of my other articles and blogs and draw your own conclusion. In a nutshell I will say that being a 51 year old, having been overweight and out of shape, doing all of the wrong things that a person can do gives me credibility on the wrong side of fitness. So on the right side is the fact that I made a conscious decision to right the wrong, to change the behavior, to rekindle the desire to live and stop the entire negative. Please believe me it worked, I have lab results from my physical on my 50th birthday, numbers that actually made my physician ask “what are you doing, this is amazing”. That having those results come back only instilled and fired my desire to achieve more, that all of this was a precursor to competing in my first body building contest a month shy of my 51st birthday and placing 3rd. Being a rookie in something like that is hard enough when you are say 25 or 30, but from what people have told me a 51 year old rookie is unheard of. You only get what you put in, that life is about opportunities, I like to say “windows of opportunities”, so when your window opens don’t ignore it, jump through it.
As an old guy college student, (again read the bio), I had the great pleasure to meet and study under many brilliant people, and the awesome privilege to attend classes with people from every demographic, sex, race, you name it, at first it was very difficult, but it was a window. It is no different than the fitness window that I finally decided to jump through and actually stay on the right side of life. That doing these things, making these changes, giving it a shot only built equity in my bank of life, gave me a solid positive balance in the bank of life, and has helped me achieve a position where I can truthfully say I feel the best I have my entire life.
Ok that is long enough, and coming across as long winded is not the purpose, the next chapter on the PonceDe Leon topic will follow, and I plan on talking about more scientific and written topics as for as this whole live till you’re one-hundred mentality. Sometimes it’s necessary to set the table before you eat, metaphorically speaking, so read the next blog and let’s start serving some dinner.
